Olympic Binding Events . . . and More

As I mentioned, when we were away, we stopped at Kat's and picked up two projects she'd machine-quilted for me: Batik Baskets on Black and What Was I Thinking? Already at home was Meadowbrook Pasture which Branky had quilted just before we went away.

For a person who has really no interest in sports or television, every two years I spend two weeks in front of the television, watching the Olympics. I watch as much as possible, cramming two years worth of television viewing into two weeks. It makes no sense. And I like to have a mountain of handwork to keep me busy while I'm doing that. So tonight I did the machine part of the binding on Meadowbrook Pasture and started the same on What Was I Thinking? I'm hoping/planning to have the machine part of the bindings completed on all three before Friday night and the Opening Ceremonies.

And, in case that isn't enough, do you remember those bossy Log Cabins that were taking over the studio a few weeks back? They are all together (see above and left) and once again arguing with me. I wanted to put them in the flimsy stack but they have other ideas. They seem to think they'd like to be sandwiched and tied and get on to their real life with their new owner. I hadn't really thought that far, but they are a presence to be reckoned with and I know better than to argue.

Ideally, it would be terrific to finish them during the Democratic Convention which, I do believe, begins the day after the Olympics end.

Fingers, get ready for a serious work-out!

Hand-work and Olympics Watching... Do all quilters do this? My "life-time" project is an English paper-pieced Grandmother's Flower Garden border for a partial GFG top begun by my grandmother. I began the border while recovering from my hysterectomy, and watching the Summer Games in Australia. And I only work on it every two years - some decade it'll be done... Good luck with your projects - they might get done sooner than mine LOL

I have been planning on what I would work on during the Olympics as well. I have never been able to just sit and watch tv - have to be working on a project. I already plan to ppin a quilt for quilting for my granddaughter during the opening ceremonies.

You are impressively prepared, Nancy! Welcome back, by the way! I'm like you--not a huge sports fan but there is something about the Olympics that is unmissable. I'm knitting some socks, so that might do for TV time. And maybe some applique. Have fun!

Sounds like a good plan, Nancy. Enjoy the Olympics and the handwork.

Sounds like a good match... maybe, occasionally you can actually look up, too! ;) Welcome home, we missed you!

Wow! You are at the finishing stages of quite a few quilts there! Good for you! I will probably turn on the air-conditioning and quilt while we watch the Olympics. I'm not a sports fan either but I ought to keep Tetsu company and it is a good excuse to just sit for all those summer nights in a row!
Love the colours in the log cabin. Watching the Olympics and doing lots of hand work is a great idea. Hope you dont end up with sore fingers! I get engrossed in the events I watch so not a lot of sewing gets done. Your holiday pictures are fantastic. Glad to hear you had a wonderful time.
