Alive and Close to Well, and Living Near Philadelphia

You may have thought I'd vanished into your memory, I've been quiet so long. Not quite.

The cough, now in its fourth week, really has taken its toll. Plumb wore me out. Impacted my sleep. Adversely affected my welcome at various locations. Made me too cranky to blog. But today, for the first time in weeks, I have taken no medicine (when did "medicine" go away and "medication" take its place, does anyone know? Laurie?) and seem to be pretty much okay. I actually went to the orchestra concert last night and with the help of the Tessalon and my water bottle and some cough drops got through the entire program without obnoxing my neighbors. So I believe I've turned the corner at last.

I've been busy, too, getting ready for the annual meeting of Heads' Assistants for Quaker Schools which will be held tomorrow and Friday down in DC. Joe is going to come down on Friday and we'll spend some time with Andrew and Amy before coming home on Saturday afternoon.

I've spent a little time in the evenings working on the platypus quilt and will post a picture of it on Sunday. I'm going to have to stop work on it now for a while; I have a couple of Christmas gifts to finish (finish? how about start?) before I can get back to it.

The picture? Well, it was either that or a toilet bowl cleaner. I believe it is a card from a role playing game. Andrew used to be very involved in those. Many years ago when he was still in high school he impulsively gave me a "summon goblins" card which I stashed away in my wallet. It's still there. I'm thinking now how nice it is to know that in ten or twelve years time, I've not had so much as one instance of even thinking of using it.

And that is it for today!

Glad you are on the mend. Those cards are really making a comeback...you should google Pokemaon cards and see how much it is worth. Everytime I stitch, I think of you.

I'm glad to hear you are on the mend. I'm afraid I haul out the medication (medicine) just because I don't want to completely end up in bed. So far this season I'm doing good but influenza has hit the prefecture... With kids coughing in your face it is a challenge to stay well!

Happy to hear you are feeling well. That card brought back memories - my son collected those to, apparently there was some game they played at school. I'm also glad to hear you haven't had the need to use the "summons" card...yet.

Glad you're moving around taking no medicinals. ;) And I take it as a good sign not to need to "summon goblins" as well although now that I think about it, I could use this power from time to time! I mean, I'm just sayin'...

I'm really flatter that you feel I would know the answer to this question. And also kind of...disturbed.

A couple of recommendations that you might want to try:

Traditional Medicinals teas - I swaer by them. They make an excellent one for coughing called "HerbaTussin" and that I highly recommend trying. Also, I know from long experience how much coughing can tear up your throat, so I also use "Throat Coat" tea for that. Use honey in them for sweetening instead of sugar to soothe irritation.

When you prepare them, let them sit for about 15 min. under a tea cozy. The stronger they are, the better they work. You can find these teas in any good natural/organic foods kind of store if you have anything like that near you. I hope that you can find these teas and give them a try. Truly, they do make you feel a whole lot better. I couldn't get through winter without them on hand in my cupboard.

Hope you feel better soon.
I'm glad you are feeling better Nancy. I think it became medication when the pharmacies started advertising it on tv.

I hope you're continuing to get better. I'm stubborn enough that I rarely ever take medicine for anything; I would just rather lay around and see what happens.
