My husband and I both are military vets. Thank you for remembering those who gave all.

Thanks for the reminder, Nancy. And thanks, too, for the memories your post brought up. I grew up in a very small town where my father was a member of the American Legion and my mother was active in the auxilliary. I sold lots of poppies for the Legionnaires as a child but, of course, didn't really understand why people were so happy to buy them and wear them. The morning of Memorial Day was often spent going with Dad to the four cemeteries around our town for a flag ceremony and a 21-gun salute.

Hear hear - but our time for reflection and remembrance is 11th November - Nick has just this weekend returned from a school trip to the WW1 battlefields in Belgium and France and amongst many other places he visited the grave of the youngest casualty of WW1 who at 14yo was the same age as him along with the memorial to a man he'd studied at school prior to the trip who lived a short walk from our home - while he was away three members of 40 Commando Royal Marines based at Norton Camp on the outskirts of our town were killed in Afghanistan - such a tragedy - when will it all end?
