Without A Leg to Stand On (Ha Ha)

Well, nobody's going to make a lamp that looks like my leg.  Thassfershure.  It is way too ugly!

I saw the school nurse last week on the day of the accident, and she dressed the main injury and recommended a treatment plan.  Which I followed.  I wrote earlier of my struggles with trying to get a decent scab to form because both injuries are over bendy places.  I alternated putting healing cream and a dressing with exposure to the air.  I spent the better part of the weekend in the recliner with the bloomin' thing exposed to the air.  I rested.  I did what I should have done.  For once.

But this morning it was no better.  In fact, the area to the northwest of the main injury had become red, puffy, and kind of hard.  Strange.  So I went back to see the school nurse today.  She said that it has become infected and the hard red area is where the body is trying to contain the infection.  She prescribed no more air exposure for now but to clean it and apply antibiotic ointment and a clean pad twice a day.  I'm to see her again on Wednesday.  She told me what to watch out for, i.e., streaks of red radiating from the wound would indicate the infection had spread into the blood.  If that happens, I  need to see the doctor.  And get oral antibiotics.  And godknowswhatelse.  She spoke direly of cellulitis as a possible consequence.  I promised to be a good patient.

So now I'm going to go clean both wounds and apply the antibiotic gunk and put fresh dressings on and get in bed with my book.

No quilty content once again.  It's killin' me.

xx

I'm sorry you're having such trouble with this, but PLEASE be careful! I know two people who developed serious infections because of little cuts on their legs. Watch for the streaking, and don't wait to see the doctor if it starts.

Nancy,
I am so sorry to hear of your injury- I do hope that you soon are feeling better. I am so glad to hear that the school nurse is helping you take care of it. Do watch out for the infection spreading- I have a good friend who had cellulitis and she had quite a time with it.
Sending you some good healing wishes,
Warmest regards,
Anna

I agree that you should see your doctor sooner rather than later -- my DH ended up in the hospital for 4 days because of an infection in a little cut on his elbow. It's likely you should have antibiotics now!

Oh my! Sending healing thoughts for your outer wounds, and hugs for the inner ones. At least you can still look at quilting magazines or books or do a bit of hand sewing :)

Best wishes for speedy healing. This sounds like a nasty wound. If you got on oral antibiotics sooner rather than later what harm would that do? Perhaps the Dr. should be consulted now. Please, please take good care of YOU!

I vote with the Dr. visit, lol. I know, just what you didn't want to hear.

Keep them all gooped up, you'll have less scaring.

Take care, enjoy your reading.

Oh Nancy, gosh. This is a "bummer city" sort of situation. Definitely a bummer. Agree with Mrs. G. on the whole "next step" in plan of treatment.

...funny how we're all Drs. I even like to tell my own Dr. what I think she should do. Very pushy broad am I. Kinda like L. Trotter.

Another vote here for a visit to the doctor. You've got a lot of exposed area there -- Mrs. Goodneedle is right about an oral antibiotic.

PLEASE take care of yourself, Ms. Nancy. You have a huge circle of friends that really care about you and hate to see you hurtin', much less not quiltin'.

Oh, and I forgot to add that that lamp makes me laugh evey time I see it. It's almost that time of year -- time for the 24 hour marathon showing of THAT movie. Fa Ra Ra Ra Ra.

I am behind and just now catching up. I'm sorry you're hurting outside and inside. I hope both heal quickly, though, from my own experience I imagine the outside will heal faster. Take care!

So sorry to hear about your injury and its aftermath. Although I'm like you and usually try to muddle through these situations by myself, I agree with others that it's time to see the doctor. Hope to hear that you're better soon!

Nancy, you poor thing! I really felt for you when I read your last post, especially as you were so traumatised that you didn't create the little link for us all to send you our good wishes. It seems so unfair, when you were trying to do a good thing for your body, to have it hurt.

Please, please, listen to what the others are saying (I wouldn't dare try to tell you what to do!) it sounds like good advice to me.

I'm even more sorry for your inner hurt, but I'm hugely thankful that you felt able to post about it. Because people I know don't generally talk about that kind of thing, when I have been hurt in the way you were, I have felt that I'm over-reacting or being childish or too sensitive. It comes as a great relief to "hear" someone I respect greatly say "this stuff happens, and it hurts".

I hope you are able to focus on the love of your family and friends, and let go of the sadness this incident caused you.

So sorry to hear that you are hurting... Knees and heart. Yes, it does take time for everything. I think the skin heals more quickly than the heart though. At least with the skin you can watch it and see how it differs from day to day. With the heart I find it harder to figure out what I feel. Take care. (And I had one of those heart pains recently too.)
