A Lovely Outing

I enjoyed a lovely outing this afternoon.  With summer hours ending in another couple of weeks, I took advantage of having a long afternoon to meet my dear relative Susan for our annual summer lunch.  She lives about two hours away from me and her life is crazy-busy with three children, a full-time teaching job, and a pastor husband, so we don't see nearly enough of each other.

We met today at The Diner Formerly Known As Zinns where we had a delicious lunch.  The portions are so generous and the prices so low and the menu so extensive; I swear I don't know how they manage to stay in business.  I then shared my Burkholder's coupons and we drove out there to see what was what.

For years, ever since they came out, I've been interested in a lazy susan cutting mat.  It just made so much sense.  But the price was off-putting.  Pat recently bought one and seems quite pleased with hers.  So with my 30% off coupon, today seemed the right time to indulge.  And so I did.  Susan said she hadn't bought fabric in so long that perhaps she had forgotten how.  She hadn't.

What a nice afternoon.

Sounds like such a pleasant afternoon. I just bought one of those cutting boards last year and I love it.Mine is smaller than the one you bought and I think I want to get a bigger size now.
You won't be sorry you bought that mat. I love mine. I agree it is pricey and I got mine on sale too.

Don't hate me. My sister in law recently decided she was no longer going to sew, but wanted to focus on knitting instead. She gave me a bunch of sewing-related stuff, including a lazy susan cutting mat.

Those Olfa mats are great, no wobble. I had a smaller Brooklyn Quilter (or a similar name) round one and it was good except for the wobble. Highly recommend and find it amusing I got mine at Burkholders a few months ago with my 30% coupon! Great minds!

What a fun day. I have one of these mats and when I remember to get it out to use it, I love it. I just never seem to remember to get it out till I'm all done cutting. It's especially wonderful for trimming up half square triangle units.

I adore my rotating cutting mat and like you, wanted one for years! I took a 50% coupon to Michael's for mine :) Sadly, the local store is no longer selling quilt supplies like they used to, very minor category now that knitting has gotten so popular again.

You are the third person this week to mention the rotating mat to me (can't bring myself to call it a "lazy susan"). I'll be interested to hear what you think of it in actual use.

Zinn's will always have a fond place in my heart. When I was a college student back in the last century, I was on the state board of an association that held its annual convention in Atlantic City that year. I rode with our adult sponsor and four other members of our board from Nebraska to the Jersey shore. We stopped at Zinn's along the way and also navigated around City Hall in Philadelphia at 5 in the afternoon. We mistook the Freedom Foundation for Valley Forge, but that didn't matter because I ended up moving to the Philadelphia area only three years later. Now that I live only five miles from Valley Forge, I definitely know the difference between the park and the Freedom Foundation! Never got back to Zinn's though.

I love my turntable mats. I had bought the original Boston Turntable. It moves way too easy but is perfect for paper-piecing. Then I have two of the Olfa spinning mats. An 8" and a 14". The big one hardly gets used but the small one sits on top of my regular mat.
XOXOXO Subee

You will love the mat! I bought mine off Craig's List at a bargain price. I can't imagine why she decided to get rid of it. I use it all the time!
