Index!

As I mentioned yesterday, Kristy Daum invited me to test her new pattern, Index. Kristy has organized a little blog hop and asked if I would participate. Now, you know this isn't my usual kind of thing at all, but three things made me agree:

1. Kristy is so nice and writes a darned good pattern!
2. The list of participants is short, and all of them were new to me! They are terrific blogs, too, so you'd want to visit them even if there weren't a blog hop going on.
3. Kristy has generously offered me a pdf version of Index to give away!

Now, take a look at that pattern cover. Isn't it interesting? Intriguing? Look like it would be a challenge to do? Yes, yes, and No! Kristy writes very clear instructions, and although I was asked to "make a few blocks," I ended up making a baby quilt.

And here it is! Please click to enlarge it. It took a very short time to make the blocks and put it together. Kristy's pattern is for a larger version and doesn't call for a border, but you know me . . . .

You can visit Kristy here and go to her Etsy shop here, if you need to buy this pattern right away!

Following are those blogs I mentioned above, and the day that they will be sharing Index.

Now, here's the part you're waiting for, i.e., how to win the free pattern! Write a comment telling me what fabrics or colors you would use to make this project. Black with batiks? WOW with 30s? Kaffe on grey?

I'll draw the winner's name on Friday. Make sure I have your email to give to Kristy, as she'll be sending out the pattern directly.

Love your EdEmberly Index! The lucky baby will enjoy picking out all the animals. It is a great pattern. I'd like to do it in bright polka dots and bold geometric fabrics with a solid white background.

That is a very unusual and fun pattern! I like it in the original colors Kristy did hers in.
Glad to hear all is well near Philly.

Glad you seem to be OK after Sandy.

Now how cute is this quilt? I continue to amazed that folks can still think up new quilt patterns. Applause!

I can see this quilt in childish primary colored fabrics, perhaps flannel!

Hugs!

Oh I love this quilt!!! Thanks for the opportunity to win the pattern!!! I would make it several color ways - black with brights, white with brights, red and white, blue and white, pink and black...

Love, love, love INDEX! I'm thinking bright primaries against white for a baby quilt. Well done, Nancy, yours is terrific.

I have many choices to pick from, but think I would go with gray for my background and maybe a Sweetwater line that has the gray/red/black/white - would be very pretty. Did you have any impact from Sandy??

That is a wonderful baby quilt! Looks awesome!

I think some brights with a black background, or perhaps blues with a white background. Choices, choices!

Very cute, Nancy! I would probably make mine monochromatic, since that's where I've "been" lately -- and I'm thinking black & white would be interesting...

Why, 30's repros on Kona Snow of course. Or....some of my 100's of Halloween fabrics on black!

Nancy, what a great looking pattern! Thanks for the chance to win it. I 'see' it with perhaps a Kona snow background with bright scraps. Glad your carpeting woes are finished, what a trail! Laura H. (rebusrebus@verizon.net)
Your quilt is lovely--the diagonal matching block appeal to me! I think I would use forals, because I have some strips cut from my stash. It could be a companion quilt to the bed quilt that I made from all my floral fabrics.

I really like your Index! and how refreshing to see a list of other bloggers that aren't "the usual" ones. It's always fun to find new friends to visit :)

I have a shoebox full of purple and pink 2.5" strips -- many of them from Miss Pat. They would work up nicely with a pale lilac polka dot fabric I have in my stash!

I love this pattern and your version is great! I am usually a high-contrast type of quilters, but your middle rows made me think that this would be so interesting as a low-volume quilt. I think I would use various light neutrals as the background and some light gray prints as the bars. Thanks for the inspirations and for the chance to win!

I would like to try this with a gray solid and then some splashy prints. I haven't used gray much in the past but think this pattern would be the perfect start.

I love the baby size version...I have several baby quilts I need to get made right now anyway! I think I would go with some kiddo prints from my stash and use white or grey for the background...but I saw one done in all solids and it looked awesome...so it seems there really is no wrong choice with this pattern!

This is the quilt that I'll do for my son's graduation. I hope I win.
