Anniversary Date

May 2, 2006, was the date of my very first blog post.

Ten years. What a ride it has been!

Sam was three months old. He's since been joined by Caroline, Nate, Eli, Aberdeen and Miles in the grandchild department. Several cats have gone and come. Two sons have married. Himself survived a scary heart attack and became even more beloved. Our neighbor was on the verge of turning eighty-five (and he's still going strong up for an evening out on the town from time to time). Our other neighbor has turned into a friend. My employment situation has changed a couple of times. I've completed dozens of quilts. Read a bazillion books. Traveled to marvelous places. Acquired new friends; shed some acquaintances. Visited countless blogs and even met some of the wonderful bloggers. And more.

I started a blog because

  • I like to write
  • I had time on my hands at work
  • I thought perhaps someday Sam (and any subsequent grandchildren) might want to know me better
  • I enjoyed reading and commenting on other blogs
  • I like the idea of a sort of journal
Hoping for another ten years, it's time for a small give-away. Leave a comment, please and I'll draw a name. Oh, and please don't publicize this give-away; it's just for The Regulars. Like you. If the winner is a quilter, the give-away is a fat quarter pack with a somewhat autumnal theme. If the winner isn't a quilter, then it is something else. I'll draw the name on Wednesday.

This would be post 2033, by the way. But who's counting?

Happy, happy Anniversary! Don't know that I've 'read' you the entire last 10 years, but probably for at least eight. Am a sometime quilter who gets side tracked into garment sewing, but always enjoy your posts. Laura H

Well, Nancy, I have not been reading your blog for the whole ten years but I have been reading and enjoying your blog regularly for a long time. I think I began soon after the heart attack and about the time that Bonnie Hunter joined you in surprising a friend. In fact I believe I found you from Bonnie's blog. In addition, I have found many other wonderful blogs by using your list. Thanks for writing and for introducing me to so many new ideas. Oh yes, in addition to quilting, I love your politics.

10 years. Wow! I've been an on and off again reader, so I'm not sure I qualify as a regular. I do love your posts. You've given me quite a lot to think about over the years. Happy Anniversary!

It's been fun following you over the years. I don't think I was here at the beginning, but I did go back to the beginning and read the entries to catch up. Watching your grandchildren grow has been a delight. Your quilts are always wonderful. You do great travel diaries. However, what I love best is that you speak your mind and what you have to say is thoughtful. Here's to another 10 years!

Congrats on your ten years. I found your blog from the Barn hop and just finished reading your last 25 posts. So much fun to vicariously share your recent trip. 🙂. I, too, have been blogging for ten years (since Feb '06). I enjoy the. Chance to get to know other quilters I would likely never meet

Happy Anniversary! I started reading your blog when I had time on my hands at work and I was happy to see that you didn't shy away from talking about politics. I enjoy reading about your journeys through your quilting stash, and through life. Thank you for sharing your journal with us.

I came through a link on Bonnie's blog, but I stayed because of your good writing, great quilts, and thoughtful insights. Congrats on 10 years!

Happy Anniversary! Amazing to think of all these life changes in just ten years. I learned about Bonnie Hunter through you and just heard her speak in April at my quilt guild.

I wish you more years. I have to get back to blogging, now i just read blogs I like. I have skipped so many by past favorites since they became sales platforms. I try not to be harsh, but I enjoy the newsy and and warm style blogs that show me real people doing what I love and loving things around them. You show me both.

Congratulations, Nancy. Your blog is the perfect combination of quilting and thinking and living. You inspire me in all three ways, and I'm so glad I found you. Keep on keepin' on.

You're a great writer and I've enjoyed reading your blog these last 7 years. I would have started reading your blog earlier if I had known there was such a thing as quilting blogs ! Congrats on all your joys and quilts and travel these past years. I'll look forward to reading about those to come!

I too have been reading your blog for a long time, if not ten years. As a Canadian, it's always interesting to read an American perspective. I love how you don't shy away from politics and your beliefs and opinions. Congrats on 10 years! I have one grandchild now, and hope that in ten years, like you I will have a few more. annesimonot@sasktel.net

I have thoroughly enjoyed the five years of your ten that I have been following you. Your wisdom and goodness is evident and your life observations are inspiring. The mug rug you made still sits by my computer and cradles my water mug daily!

Congratulations on your maintaining a steadfastly interesting blog with amazing photos for 10 whole years! The milestones that have marked these 10 years in your life are nothing short of astonishing, too. How could you have imagined all of those events and the new lives that decorate your heart and days? I wasn't there for your early years but your blog has been a daily boon to me for the last several years. Keep it up!

Hugs!

I found your blog several years ago through another blog, and I'm not sure which one....maybe Finn? I arrived here because of your interest in quilting, but have stayed for so much more! Your trips are very enjoyable to read about. You and Himself visit such interesting places and the photos are great for letting us share a part of the adventure with you. Thanks for your keeping it up, and I'm looking forward to many more blog posts!

Happy blogaversary! I've been reading your blog for years, but not 10 years. I really enjoy seeing and reading about your quilts, but the 'other' posts are extremely interesting. Like one of your previous posters, I'm Canadian and find your political posts unusually logical and rational compared to many others I've seen. I'm looking forward to another 10 ten blogging years.
