Re-Knee-ed

Four days ago I got a new right knee. Same hospital, different surgeon. And the best I can say is that I'm really, really glad I'm not a centipede. Or even a quadruped.

I wasn't eager to do it; I still remembered how unpleasant the first knee was twenty-two months ago. But it had to be done and I was eager to be on the other side of it. And now here I am.

In the total scheme of things, it's a little bit early. Joe is still slowed down by his cardiac rehab and while he's trying diligently to be a good nurse, it's a struggle for him. Our neighbors, our family, friends have been wonderful (someone is out there even as I type, plowing the snow that has been accumulating all day). I'm managing my medicines, trying not to take too much of the oxy, and my nurse is doing the meals and doing a damn good job of it, too. Telling ourselves that a month from now, all will be back to whatever normal is supposed to be.

So there's not a lot to blog about. But two things:

First, the care I received in our hospital was superb. Literally everyone who interacted with me was exceptional. If I were a centipede, I'd go back there in a minute. Postop, I had the option of going home but I'd developed a complication of no feeling on the sole of my operated foot, making it unsafe. So I spent the night and was really glad to have the professionals tending to me. Discharge was smooth, picking up meds also smooth, and -- well -- so far, so good.

Second, there's not a lot of quilting/sewing going on. I did have the foresight to ask Himself to draw the embroidery motifs on the low volume border of Pick A Petal and I'm working -- a little -- on that embroidery. Still have the applique to figure out, but that's for another day.

Oh my! You have had quite the devoid late. Hope the healing goes well. I’m getting my cataracts fixed over the next month. Always something 🙃

Poor you, but hopefully the worst is over and you will heal quickly. Doesn't it feel strange, when you are usually the one offering help, to be on the receiving end? People will be glad to repay a little of your kindness.

Take care friend and don't try to do too much too fast. You and Joe deserve to heal properly and well. Thankful that you have others to take care of things beyond what you can manage. Sending well wishes to both of you.

I'm happy to hear that the surgery went well. You'll be kicking up a storm before you know it. (At least when the lilacs bloom.)

It's always good to see surgery in the rear view mirror of life! Happy healing.
I'm glad to hear that Joe, family, and friends are helping in all the needed ways and that you have hand sewing and embroidery ready to enjoy when you're ready. No hurry.

Hugs!

LOVE my knees! Go hard these first 2 weeks and get that motion. Especially if you're using Oxy (I didn't need narcotic). If it's great motivation, I walked 2200 miles in 2025. Knee 1 in 2018 and knee 2 in 2021.

Cheers!!!

Here's to a fabulous, quick recovery and an early spring! Could you please send your snow to Idaho? We are having a snow drought and it sounds like the East has had quite enough! Best wishes to you and Joe!

Wow, Nancy! If it isn't one knee, it's the other! Glad you aren't a centipede, and glad you are receiving great care. Will be praying for an excellent recovery for the both of you!
