Updates: (1) Knee (2) Pick A Petal
It's been three and a half weeks since my re-knee, and actually I'm doing pretty well. Himself has been a superb cook, good nurse, and adequate launderer. I've been completely off of the oxy for a week now and Tylenol has become a good and faithful friend. I used the walker at home for two days and then switched to the cane; for the past week I've not needed the cane in the house. I've been out of the house precisely twice: First was a follow up appointment with Dr. Knee; it turned out to be with Dr. K's PA, which was fine. She removed my thirty (count 'em) staples and was pleased with my rotation, my extension, my mobility. She provided a prescription for outpatient physical therapy and we stopped at the local place on the way home to get me set up. When we got home, after two and a half hours away, I was whupped; crawled into the recliner and slept for two hours! My second outing was for the first PT session; I took the cane for use outside (we've got snow and icy spots here and there) and had a good evaluation and visit. So I'm On My Way. The way the weather has been, it turns out that mid-January was a superb choice for this kind of surgery.
My chief complaint is skewed sleep; I just can't get comfortable at night and can't seem to sleep for very long at a stretch. Dr. Knee's PA said this was perfectly normal and wouldn't last for ever. I'm trying to believe her.
I'd had the foresight preoperatively to get my resident artist to draw the embroidery motifs on the low volume border of Pick A Petal, and it's been wonderful to have this to work on in the evenings (while we watch reruns of The West Wing in an attempt to hang onto our sanity). I'm on the very last motif which will likely be finished tonight. Then comes the applique -- chunky flowers interspersed among the embroidered posies and flutterbyes. The first set are already cut out and prolly tomorrow I'll bond them down and then it will be blanket stitch blanket stitch blanket stitch for the foreseeable future.
Stay tuned.
