Twenty Years

May 2, 2006 was the date of my very first blog post. It doesn't seem possible that it's been that long ago. Twenty years.

At the time that first post, Sam was three months old. Three days from now he finishes his sophomore year of college. And we didn't know Caroline or Nate or Eli or Aberdeen or Miles yet.

Oh, my.

I used to blog more often than I do now. I guess I had a lot more to write about? Whatever.

My life has been richer for having been a blogger, mostly because of the wonderful people I've met or "met" through this activity.

Back in the day, bloggers sometimes did give-aways. Sometimes just because and sometimes to celebrate. We don't see much of that anymore. But twenty years warrants a give-away. So if you're interested in whatever that may be, leave a comment about how you found this blog, or a post that you remember particularly, or something else about our relationship over the years. And next week, on Wednesday, I'll draw a name.

And, as always, thank you for visiting.

N, NP

I will never forget the first time I met you IRL, in Lancaster. You were wearing a flower on your hat! I enjoy your blog very much! Kathy B in NorCal

I don't remember how I found your blog, but it was only relatively recently. I so enjoy blogs, getting to 'know' the authors and being inspired by their projects and ideas. Perhaps we keep writing out of habit, but I like to think that whatever we blog about will help someone, somewhere, sometime with a textile issue! Keep up the good work!

I did 2 swaps with you, both GWTW themed. 12 Oaks and Miss Melanie I think. I hope to combine those blocks one day and make Beau's quilt. One day hopefully we will meet - if you ever come back 'west' (as you once described it) to Illinois, let me know. Or let Nann know - she knows how to get a hold of me!!!! Thankful for your blog.

I found your blog several months ago, but don’t remember who linked to it. I enjoy reading about your quilting, but my favorite posts have been about your Thursdays at the food bank. Especially “The Givers”. Dot in North Carolina

I believe I chose to read your blog from among those in Bonnie Hunter's blog roll (which she no longer has), when I first found Bonnie's blog in 2011. You had been at it a while already. I sent a "COW" block to you when you were collecting them, and we connected over things happening with grandchildren at the time. You are the one who introduced me to Trader Joe's Pumpkin Pancake mix, and I still keep a mug rug you sent me beside one of my many work stations.
I found you through quilting, but I also really enjoy your stories and insights. Thank you for the years of creativity, wisdom, and friendship. (Yes, I vote FOR the Oxford comma.)

I started reading because I was interested in Philadelphia in your name. Originally from Lancaster/Lebanon area it caught my attention. Some of your blogs with poetry come to mind. And also your trips to Burkholders and the quilt stores that I have visited. Dotti in CT

I started reading your blog for the quilting, but stayed because of your writing.
I also have participated in 2 of your swaps. One with reproduction fabrics the other cool colored batik stars. The reproduction one is a lively quilt, the batiks are still awaiting assembly.
Congratulations on twenty years of publishing.

Twenty years, that is very impressive. I think I started blogging in 2007 but I have bounced around platforms. I don’t know how I found your blog but I know it was many years ago. I found connections with your quilting and working in a school. I have really enjoyed rediscovering your blog and seeing all the beautiful Jen Kingwell quilts.

Not sure when I started reading your blog, but it is probably over 10 years. We're about the same age. I was inspired by your Queen Bee blocks that you make with your quilting friends. In 2024 my Bee decided to do the same. Each month's hostess would pick a block. Wow, some were really creative. Most of those resulting quilts will be in our June 2026 show, Quiltfest. Thank you for your inspiration.

Happy Blogaversary! (Though my fingers want to put a "d" in there, this is not adversarial because I am not averse....) Anyway, how did we meet? Probably a comment on someone else's blog. However it was, I'm glad we did and I'm very happy that we could meet in person last summer.

Congratulations for keeping the faith with blogging - so many others have faded away . . . I vote FOR the Oxford comma, I love the annual Birds piece at Christmastime, and perhaps most of all are your deeper, introspective, thoughtful posts tinged with your sense of humor and wit. I am glad to call you a long-distance friend, despite our multiple misses for connecting in person. Keep on blogging!
happy Blogiversary!!! Its fun to think of all the things that have changed - but cool to see your own growth!
