Oh, Bill!

So, I saw the pattern at from the very first glance, I was smitten. I didn't know when I was going to make it and I didn't have any idea about fabrics for the trees. But I had to have it. So I ordered the pattern with the acrylic templates and also a couple of black on white FQ bundles.

Turned out, wouldn't ya know, that the day the pattern, templates and backgrounds arrived was the same day that the mailman brought my monthly fix supply of William Morris fat quarters from my dealer. And just like that! I knew what I needed to do.

I was scheduled to go on a quilt retreat with a group of women who were mostly new to me (and they turned out to be wonderful) in just a few days. And that's what I took to begin working on.

The pattern designer, Louise Pappas for Jen Kingwell, wanted her design to be reminiscent of the streets of Paris. She nailed it.

And with all of those William Morris fabrics, that was the beginning of Bill Goes To Paris.

As I completed the rows, Himself looked at what I was doing and, uncharacteristically reticent, he had a bit of a suggestion. Not to use the low volume fabrics for the horizontal strips supporting the trees, but some sort of a solid. He said it would "ground" them more. He recommended brown. And together we decided on four different brown-ishes.

I loved working on this quilt. She's a full flimsy as of today and heading off to the machinist tomorrow.

The only thing she needs is a different name. Bill Goes To Paris is a bit too ordinary. I'm thinking Bill's Parisian Adventure. But I'm definitely open to suggestions.

Oh, Bill!

Himself was ever so right about those grounding strips. I love this quilt top - the colors, the scrappiness, the trees, just all of it. As to the name, I quite like Bill Goes to Paris (think Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris - a wonderful read if you haven’t found it).
