Looking Ahead AND What's On My Wall

No, no, no, I did not make this gorgeous quilt! Not yet! But I have, as of today, given in and subscribed to Jen Kingwell's Pick A Petal quilt through Intrepid Thread. It's a huge commitment, but this quilt represents precisely the kind of quilting I've been doing lately. After having pop up after pop up of this project on my Facebook feed, this morning I wrote to a friend to ask her to talk me out of subscribing. She didn't. In case you think you might want to pick petals along with me, the BOM begins in June of 2025 and continues for six months. It includes fabrics (JK's own fabrics along with some Liberty [sigh]), templates, patterns, instructions, access to videos and membership in a special FB group. Yes, it's on the pricey side. I decided to let that bother me for an hour and a half and then to let go of it.

Be prepared, reader, to see me picking petals during the second half of the year that has just begun!

On December 1, I began Glitter and I thought it was about time I shared an update. These blocks are hand-pieced in the evenings in front of the TV (currently we're re-watching Downton Abbey). I usually cut four to six at a time. I press each morning and put the stack-in-progress back in the living room. There will be eight rows of 19 blocks each when it's finished; BTW, it will be machine-assembled. I've got the hang of the Y-seams and work for about two hours each evening. My belief is that Glitter will be finished before Pick A Petal starts. We'll see. I'm thinking that you can enlarge this photo (and the one above, too) by clicking on it if you want to see the fabrics up close.

Glitter is going to be glorious in those colors and fabrics. Well done in hand piecing the blocks, too!!
Pick-a Petal will be a knock-out and, my goodness, what an array of blocks and happy fabrics! You do like complicated and bravely begin. My hat is off to you, my friend!
You've likely heard of our snow on Sunday night/Monday and the additional snowfall last night. Seems to have amounted to about 9" or 10" total, and the earlier snow is mostly still with us due to frigid days and nights since it fell. It's been years since we've seen this much snow and we've nearly used up our bird seed feeding the neighbors!

Hugs!

You are the bravest quilter I know! Pick a Petal will be a beauty. Your Glitter blocks would be terrific the way you have them displayed as a band between two wide pieces of dark (about the same as your design wall).

The Pick A Petal quilt shown here is amazing - both the design and fabrics used, you're very brave to take on this project, I'm looking forward to seeing how it all goes.

I am not surprised at all that you are going to make the Petal quilt. It suits you to a "T" and I know your version will be beautiful!

You are certainly brave! You always turn out the most glorious work, Nancy; Glitter and Petals are no exception.

My son and I did a Downton Abbey binge in December too! Love the light colors of your planned sew-along. I look forward to your updates as it progresses. Brave to do those improved 9-patches!

This looks like a beautiful project. I looked at it a few times but I am going to wait. I am taking a class with Jen Kingwell next month and will see if I am drawn to another big Jen Kingwell project.

I love how you love taking on a challenge, Nancy. The JK quilt is incredible.I will not be joining you in picking petals, but I will be watching you with great interest.
Glitter is beautiful, but isn't it a little "dark and dirty" for your more modern preferences? The fabrics are definitely ones I would work with. I'll be cheering for you to have all the glitter cleared out before you start picking petals. ;)
