Two Good Things

When we were driving on I-86/Rte. 17, from time to time we would see blue and white signs urging people not to text and drive, and telling how many miles to a "Text Stop." Then, the rest stops were re-labeled as Text Stops. This was the first I'd seen this kind of sensible effort and I was mightily impressed.

At the final Chautauqua lecture that we attended, the presenter informed the audience that CVS pharmacies had taken a pledge to no longer sell tobacco. Again, I was impressed.

Way to go, New York State and CVS!

Interesting way to curb texting and driving. I like it. Has been rather ironic to see tobacco products behind the counters of stores that are supposedly about your "health". Gotta be a gutsy move, considering that I'm sure it is a profitably product. Nice to see a company put people ahead of profits!

It has never failed to astonish me why any state legislators refuse to make it illegal to text while driving. Like it's okay to take your eyes off of the road??? Duh!

Nancy, I love the text stop. What a great idea. The other day on the turnpike the truck next to us started to swerve all over the place, we couldn't get past him quick enough(It was a loonnggg truck). As we passed I saw that the driver was texting. Didn't know how to go about reporting him. Scary stuff.
As for CVS, I have known for many months, due to my son working there. I was shocked and pleased. It is a BOLD step that could conceivably cost them major dollars. Hope the boldness continues. <3 U

Way to go NY! Since I was born and raised in the Hudson Valley, I'm really impressed. More states should take a lesson from that. And CVS -- wow. Somehow I doubt other big retailers will follow suit with them.....

Another good thing from a NY-based business -- Wegmans supermarkets stopped selling tobacco products in 2008. If you've never been in a Wegmans, you absolutely must go sometime!
