Summer Retreat, 2024

I spent the first part of this week on retreat with my besties. It's been a very, very long time since I've been able to go away with Helen, Marsha, and Judy. We spent three nights in a great house in Lancaster County

I was super productive!

There wasn't a satisfactory place to hang a quilt for photographic purposes, but my friends did their best for me.

Here's Bessie, all put together. I'm pleased with how she turned out. This was a challenging project where there were some techniques that I was uncomfortable with and I had to invent a different way to do a block or substitute a different one.

Rather unbelievably, Sam leaves for his first year of college. He told me the sports teams that he favors and I ordered FQs of their logos only to find that their colors really are incompatible! I added some sports equipment FQs and decided that black and white FQs would do a good job of pulling it all together. Then I discovered a glorious orange and that was exactly what I needed. This is a Yellow Brick Road, extra long twin.

I pieced this Trinkets quilt in the summer of 2019 and had a wonderful time seeing all of these darling little bits come to life. And then it sat through the pandemic and beyond. Now it's ready for the machine quilter! The photo is unfortunately on the blurry side.

Some of these granny blocks were made by my bee mates last year. The quilt is for our niece and it needed to be a queen size, so I had a lot more blocks in greens, blues and purples to make. I love how it turned out.

And that, friends, is the Report of the Retreat!

Your retreat was outrageously productive! Love your son's dorm quilt and, particularly, the Eagles fabric!

Bessie looks stunning, and all the more so for the changing up of blocks. Love the sports quilt - of course I looked for Eagles fabric and was delighted to see it in there. You did a brilliant job of pulling those disparate (not desperate) fabrics together. I'd love to see a better photo of the Trinkets quilt - or better still, see it in person next year!
