Two and Three

Boardwalk Block Two was a delight to make. Truly. The fan blades that appear as lavender are actually pale, pale pink.

In fact, I'm loving picking out the fabrics to form the various elements for the blocks. I have tentative selections for the remaining twenty-seven!

They are all stacked up with the shoulders, lattice, inner wedges, and center square all cut but not yet marked.

The fan elements are neither cut nor marked, and there is a bit of uncertainty about the fabrics for a couple of them.

I like Block Three a whole lot; Himself, not so much. It was more painstaking to assemble and it still needs more pressing. I attribute the difficulty to variation in fabric weight, i.e., those wonderful pirate cats are a Kokka fabric that they call "Oxford" and that may be but it feels heavier than shirt Oxford, almost like a light-weight canvas. But I had to use it! And the brown lattice is a Liberty lawn. The rest of it is all regular quilting cotton. And these diverse species of fabric don't really get along all that well.

I don't anticipate further difficulty of this nature; the cats are the only Kokka Oxford. I think.

When I worked for Delta Patchworks shortly after I retired from the law firm, they sold a LOT of Kokka and Yuwa fabrics (they were expensive even back then). They're lovely but they are a different weight/feel from our usual quilting cottons. Your two latest blocks are wonderful (especially against that lace background). So happy you are enjoying these!

I really like the variety of fabric patterns. I know that some people like low volume quilts, but I'm not one of them. Thanks for sharing.

Love these new blocks and the interesting variety of fabric designs - like the pirate cats! I'd never heard of Kokka or Yuwa fabrics so don't have any. Interesting that they're heavier than usual quilting cottons. Live and learn!
As you may have heard from your Richmond family, it's been raining since midnight last night and is expected to continue raining until 2am tonight.

Hugs!

Your blocks get a delightful boho feel against the lace tablecloth.

I can't believe you have the fabric already chosen for all of the blocks. That, and the finished blocks themselves, show how much joy you find in the project. Love those pirate cats!
