Frustration Reigns

Well, the lozenges emerged from time-out only to be sent back in after two nights. I was able to get three rows of four lozenges sewn up but when I tried to insert the squares between the rows, they were uncooperative so back in time-out they went.

Only to be joined very soon by the wiggly worms. I thought those blocks looked pretty straight-forward, but -- once again -- I was mistaken! I can't get straight sides. I tell you, the time-out department is getting crowded.

To soothe my frustration, I resorted to the Bear's Paws and they are behaving beautifully! I'm thinking I'm going to want either twelve or twenty; this quilt will be a high school graduation gift and she may want to take it to her dorm in the fall. Not a problem! I'm working from stash and scraps and have scarcely put a dent in the supply.

In other news, Joe was discharged by the surgeon on Wednesday and Lizzy came home that night. She's happy, we're happy. She's not getting the work-outs she'd become used to while at Sherry's, but she's so happy to see Joe (and beg tidbits from me).

We're where we should be on Christmas: gifts bought and wrapped, cards written and mailed, dinner menu planned, cookies considered. We're enjoying the seasonal music on our classical radio station and so far have been spared Brother Heinrich's Christmas, the only thing worse than that dratted Little Drummer Boy.

As long as you don't end up in time out, I think we're good!
Loving the Bear's Paws blocks.
Sounds like Christmas is as it should be at your abode. No Drummer Boy, huh?
I just discovered my sweet, peaceful, musically talented second daughter cannot tolerate "O Holy Night"! Still trying to wrap my head around how it became bothersome to her.

Isn't it funny/odd how certain Christmas songs simply grate on our nerves, others bring us to tears, others comfort us, others motivate us, and so on. That one particularly difficult December we shared whilst younger son was fighting for his life in ICU was one of those seasons that had a long-lasting/profound impact on how I see/feel/experience/celebrate the season (i.e., all white lights radiate hope and a reminder to be gentle with ourselves).

p.s. HOORAY for Joe being "released" and Lizzy returning home.

I tried doing EPP on the lozenges but wasn’t happy with the result. Have cut the templates for the wiggly worms so I might try those soon. Good news about Joe and Lizzy. Enjoy.

Sorry that the lozenges are proving to be pills (pun intended). Wise decision to work on something completely different. Happy Merry to you and Joe!

P.S. I can't abide Little Drummer Boy, either.

I applaud substituting other blocks for the annoying blocks in the pattern! You're making a one-of-a-kind going to college quilt, no duplicate on the planet so have fun and suit yourself. Who will know the difference? Only you!
What great news about Joe and Lizzy! I'm so happy for you three.
My favorite Christmas music is the delightfully jazzy music of Mannheim Steamroller and bought their 'Christmas Collection' 25+ years ago (on youtube if you want a preview). Also love Sylvie Woods' '3 harps for Christmas', volumes 1&2.

Hugs!

Good things are settling in for Christmas. Except for those blocks in time out. That’s a great concept! And the thing I like most about quilters is that that are problem solvers. Problem blocks? No problem, replace them with another design. Christmas blessings!
