Lady of the Lake

My friend Sharon shared this photo on Facebook recently and I can't get it out of my mind. It's the Lady of the Lake block, one I have always admired but never made.

I love the scrappiness of the prints in this quilt. I would love to do something like this. I also could see making a quilt of this block done in a more controlled palette.

This past weekend I purchased some dark blue and aqua fabrics to make a baby quilt for a dear friend's daughter. I liked the fabrics so much that I bought enough to make two baby quilts from them. I had thought I would use the same pattern for both. Now I am thinking that this block done in those fabrics would make a lovely quilt for a baby boy.

It looks complicated, but it really isn't. Here's the breakdown:

What a happy, scrappy quilt this Lady of the Lake quilt is. Might you wish to keep the Lady of the Lake quilt you make or will it be enough just to make it?

I have a number of quilt patterns I want to make including Snail's Trail, Carolina Lily, and Storm at Sea. It's too much fun!

Hugs!

The first full size quilt I ever made was based on this design. I shall find the instructions from the class and pdf them to you as it involved considerable "production" methodology v. one HST at a time work. Mine was gloriously scrappy and still one of my favorites (and I used the method to make a cookies and cream version for our son and DIL). HUGS!
I HATE that Bloglovin' bar that pops up at the top of your page. I can't leave a comment until I close it. Bah!

Anyway, I wanted to say that I have tons of HST already made up and this would be a good way for me to use them. Thanks!
I followed the link originally from FB and when I tried to comment it took me to bloglovin' and wanted me to create an account. Now I'm back and the bloglovin' nav bar is gone. Whaaa?
I went back to FB and followed the link again and the bloglovin' nav bar is back. It must have something to do between blogger/bloglovin/fb??
I have made 3 quilts from that pattern and the hardest part is sewing the blocks edge to edge with all of those seams from the triangles. you will be avoiding that if you do it with sashing like the photo. I love triangles so this is one of my favorite blocks.

I have always loved this block, but have feared the multitudes of HSTs. I think I am more comfortable with them now and should reconsider. It will be a beauty in dark blues and aqua. And the comment pointing out the convenience of the sashing is a good thing to keep in mind.
