Given Away and A Give-Away

Halo #1 has -- as they say -- found her forever home. I had posted earlier that I was thinking I would use her as a table cover. This wasn't exactly true. My dear niece had been admiring Halo since inception and a chat with my sister resulted in an understanding that the quilt would, in fact, go to Karen for Christmas. And the last quilt I gave Karen, a wedding gift, has been used ever since as a tablecloth. So I had every reason to think she would do the same with Halo.

I was mistaken.

I love what she's done.


Blogger tells me that this is Post 2510. How could I have passed 2500 without noticing? To celebrate the milestone, I think it is time for a give-away. I haven't done one in such a long time and I haven't noticed many coming from other bloggers, either. I have a fat quarter pack of 19 batiks that is looking for its forever home. If you think that might be with you, leave a comment below telling me one good thing that happened for you in 2020. I'll draw a name on Sunday night.

Yes, Halo #2 is in process. And I'm going to keep her. And maybe hang her on the wall.

Only one? I feel quite blessed that I can count many good things this year, in spite of all the kinks tossed at all of us. Back in February, I got to go on a quilting cruise, with Kaffe Fassett, Brandon Mably and Liza Lucy. And if that wasn’t spectacular enough, I got to stand in the midst of a flock of flamingos at the Ardastra Zoo in Nassau, Bahamas.

This year I learned to take more time to listen, and to talk with my family. It’s just my husband and myself at home these days, but the phone is used so much more. It’s putting down the quilting, listening, and having meaningful conversations that is my special thing for this year.

Congratulations on 2510 blog posts, that’s an amazing accomplishment! I really enjoy reading your posts about quilting. I can’t think of one good thing that happened this year. I can think of five great things that happened this year, my parents, my son, my husband and myself are all healthy in the midst of the corona virus. I’ve worried about my parents health the most and they’re doing well. I’m praying 2021 is a better year for everyone’s health and well-being.

I have no need of your generous give-away, but I have to say I found some very close friends in the COVID social-distancing craziness. A good friend and I decided to try a socially distanced round-robin and ended up including two others that we knew, but not well. As it turns out, the four of us are on exactly the same page as far as safety and COVID, and so we had some lovely park sewing meet-ups in a properly distanced way and discovered how lucky we were. What a treat, because I also know people who have lost friendships during this time. I look forward to seeing your next Halo come to life.

I love Halo's new home with your niece!

We celebrated our April 22nd 48th Anniversary with a lovely home cooked meal, a la my talented sweetie, and had mimosas, too, while sitting in our front porch rocking chairs. We added the large front porch to this house because as Southerners, we both come from porches!

I've had more time to read and to sew, both most excellent and also keep me sane.

The best thing I did last year was join our Charity Quilters that are part of our quilt guild. I have been a member of our guild for 30 years but since we stopped our monthly meeting due to the Covid, I joined our small (15 ladies) group to make charity quilts. I am proud to say that I completed all of my UFO's (about ten) and donated all those quilts to charity. Our group made 401 quilts last year. Also, Batiks are my favorite fabric to use!

We actually made a quick trip to PA during the low numbers to have three sewing machines repaired at Hinkletown. The pandemic without sewing could have been worse then it is. My husband refinished his Mother's sewing kit. It is wooden with a tambour closure. Gave it to our granddaughter with all new sewing supplies for Christmas. When you actually stop to think about it, there were so many good things that happened this year. Resolve to not allow the virus to steal our joy. Dotti in CT

In early November a little kitten wandered into our barn, obviously a "country dropoff". Starving, tick,flea, worm, and ear mite infested, we fed him and got him to the vet. Now he's a strapping 9 pounds and ruler of the house. Our Aussie loves him. He also loves helping" in the sewing room!

Love how your quilt looks over the piano. This year I learned that I can enjoy listening to books from the library. As a result, I have nearly doubled my total number of books read during the year. I listen while walking, sewing, and cooking. Previously, I had listened to NPR during those activities, but the news this year was too depressing. I discovered fiction was a perfect escape.

Congrats at passing such a milestone. I’ve always wondered how “near Philadelphia” you are. I have a daughter in Lancaster. The best thing in 2020 was my husband & I celebrating our 40th anniversary. We actually went away for the weekend.

Well, I didn't get Covid! On the other hand I finished chemo and radiation. That is a really good thing, and I'm thankful for my docs, nurses, and techs. Now all I have to do is heal from the treatments and grow hair. 😊

In a respite from lockdowns and regulations I got to go on one of my usually three annual treats. My bubble of four ranged in age fro 50 to 60 to 70 and 90 and we all got on like a house on fire and returned home safe and sound ready for the next round of restrictions.
Very glad your Halo is so appreciated.

What a wonderful complement, to have Halo hung on the wall, bringing joy every day. A good thing that came from 2021 was demonstrating my team could work successfully from home. Now I’ve asked and received permission to move from St Louis to Pennsylvania while continuing to work from home. We had bought a house in PA near our children to retire to in 3-5 years so moving really made sense. Selling our home in a hot market has proved remarkably easy. Using masks and socially distancing has so far kept us safe through all the house selling activities. Praying it continues as we look for a Feb 1 close and move.

My husband and I follow all precautions and have remained covid free! I will take good health over anything else. I retired in 2019 and husband has been work-from-home since late March. Continued good health to all in 2021!!!

Halo is gorgeous and where it’s displayed looks just perfect.

I am commenting about a good thing that has happened during 2020. My husband, the love of my life for 55 years or so, was hospitalized twice this year and he is home and doing well. In April, it was a lung infection (when COVID was first raging). He was even on the COVID floor until they got his test results back. Then in August he had surgery for a froth in his chest/lung area. Good outcome and he is doing well. So, as you can tell, we have been very blessed.

Please don’t put me n the drawing for the gorgeous fabric, I have not been sewing much of late. Just wanted to share a couple of my blessings.

My biggest blessing of many was getting the COLVID-19 vaccine. My husband and I were among the 1000 or so aged 65 or older campers who spent a very cold night "sleeping" on the sidewalk to receive the vaccine at 11 AM the next day. It felt good to be proactive and to protect ourselves against the virus that has been in control of our lives for so long. We may be old but we felt like twenty year old rock stars when we got that precious shot!

I added a puppy to my household against my husband's advice. But we both love him and he helps fill the hole in my heart since I lost my last furbaby two years ago.

I realized that menopause brought an end to a cat allergy. Here's hoping to some new feline friends in 2021...

There are other small things, but I am just so thankful for good employers and our health. And a college-aged daughter who doesn't go out and party on campus.
