Halo 2: A First Look

Halo 2 is underway. I've been working on it for a couple of weeks now. I started by cutting halos and pies. I figured I needed 200 of them and at this point about 150 are pieced into halo/pie units.

When I was cutting pies, every now and then I would come across a fabric that I wanted to have as a center, so I would fussy cut that piece. I knew I would need 36, and from time to time I'd just dig around to find what I wanted. All thirty-six are cut and framed with solids.

Then I started cutting intervals. I needed 200 regular intervals, four corner intervals, and 50 side intervals. I'm still cutting intervals.

When I made Halo 1, I waited until everything was made before I assembled. This time I am doing a row at a time.   I have enough variety of intervals at this point to do the first inside row, and that is in progress. Last night I got the top outer row of halos/pies and intervals hand pieced and this morning I machined that row together.

I so love the process.

Here is a close-up of some of the fussy-cut centers. They were so much fun to figure out. The one in the middle is my favorite. Yes, it is Dr. Fauci. I really splurged to get him -- I ordered a FQ from Spoonflower!

Now that Lizzy is nearly three months old and a bit more civilized, I think I can return to machine sewing a bit during the day. I have some paper-pieced triangles that I want to play with.

Oh, and one more thing. If you are making a Halo and would like a Fancy Fussy Fauci center for one of your blocks, let me know, and I will cut one for you.

I love the halo! Love Dr Fauci. I think I would need the whole quilt cut and mad for me to acquire a fussy cut of him! I think you need a RBG too!

The close-ups of some of your fussy cut centers are delightful (especially Dr. Fauci and the mermaid!) and I appreciate your posting them. Well done on your progress on Halo 2!

I'm making a flip-and-sew winter table runner as it's quick and easy. Only tug on my heart is that I'm getting low on several winter fabrics that I dearly love.

Hugs!

"Fancy Fussy Fauci"~ I am laughing out loud- too, too cute! This will be such a wonderful addition to your quilt as it will date it for a future quilt historian. I love this pattern and you certainly are quite masterful at its execution, this is going to be an absolute beauty!
