Mortified, Near Philadelphia
For a few months I've been saying things like, "It must be hard to be a Republican these days." And it must. Friends of mine from "the other side" have been quiet about political matters for quite a while, practically from the time we first heard the name "Sarah Palin."
But Republicanism isn't what I'm concerned about today.
It's another situation. A horrible, shameful situation taking place not all that far from where I live. According to CNN and Huffpo and I suppose nearly all other media, a day camp located in Northeast Philadelphia contracted with a private swim club to have a place for the kids to cool off on the hot summer days. And apparently the first day they came to swim, the children were told to get out of the pool and the camp's money was refunded. There were comments like "What are those black kids doing here?" and a club member was quoted as saying that she worried that the campers "might do something" to her child.
You can read the story here if you haven't already heard all about it.
The Valley Club is located about a fifteen-minute drive from where I live.
It's hard to be Near Philadelphia right now. Of course, Huntingdon Valley is a pretty much all white community, and on the uppity side. But still.
What must those campers be feeling like?
And, just as important, what are the Valley Club members' children learning?

My prayers that it can be resolved, but in the meantime, the children hurt! My grandson did a summer in the Inner city Philly, and his heart hurt for the children, they are the victims! The last day as the InterVarsity group packed up to leave for the start of classes a little four year old boy, knocked on the door and asked "Joey will you play ball with me just one more time before you leave" it left a mark on Joe's heart, he now has his degree in Sociology/Psychology from the university.
I know my answer is long, but I am feeling the hurt for the children that JUST WANTED TO COOL OFF!!
Well, racism is here, it has always been here, & actually it is worse than ever ... as are white supremacy groups, etc.
It is so sad that this situation happened regardless of uppity snippity or not areas ... it just simply shows the mentality of the people that are involved. The press is barely touching this subject other than FOX NEWS who is about the only reliable news cast left on this earth.
God made us all for a purpose ... we are His children ... we are all one.
Pray for these fools that are setting horrible examples to their children & the nation that they be
struck silent ... it is heart bresking. No one, adult or child, should be exposed to this idiotic bigotry. Cold, cruel, mean people ....
I am the proud blessed 'Mini' of 2 adorable highly intelligent racially mixed children. I wouldn't trade them for all the gold on this living earth. You wouldn't either if you had the chance to meet them. Come over to my blog & meet them ...

I don't know why I'm surprised, though. Even in liberal, tolerant Santa Rosa, I saw an soccer mom in an SUV with an "88" decal on the back window (stands for the 8th letter of the alphabet--h--and heil hitler).
Join the Southern Poverty Law Center and you'll get an education, even though you might be appalled by it. Keep those children in your prayers, all of them, they are the future of race relations in this country and they all learned some terrible lessons that day.
