Spring Break 2013

When I started working with the grey fabrics, in my head was a title of "Fewer Than Fifty."

As I got into the work and I realized that the blocks were deeply connected to what is going on in my life, it changed to "Scattered and Floating,"

The photo to the right shows its current state. It is now called "Spring Break 2013." Slowly, it is coming together, again emblematic of my present life.

To those who have walked with me on my present difficult journey, I am so grateful. Your helpful comments of support have meant so much.

I know there are those who really don't want to hear about this unexpected turn that my life has taken and are annoyed that I write about it. Frankly, I, too, wish I didn't have this topic, and I'll be far happier than you when it it is all resolved and I can get back to more cheerful subjects.

My thoughts on the matter is that this is your blog about your life and the quilting experience. I know you will come through this difficult time gracefully. I wish you peace as this is resolved.

You did it, Nancy--you made those scattered blocks float randomly and pulled them together as a whole. It worked! Good job!
I see this as a metaphor for how you will, in time, create a unified whole from the scattered, disconnected parts you see in your future. It will come together and you will feel whole again. I know you know this, but the journey is still a painful process.
God bless you!
Two years later I'm still working through leaving a job I hated so I can certainly appreciate how difficult it is to be forced to leave a job you love. The there are the other issues of age and what's next and that dreaded thing called money. I'm grateful to know that others have similar problems and like me work through them slowly using quilting and prayer and friends not necessarily in that order. It's your blog to use as you please if others don't like it let them go elsewhere. Praying and stitching right along with you.

Like the others said, this is your blog and you have the right to write about anything you please.

I love how you resolved the setting of these blocks and I especially love the little bits, like the hourglass floating in there too.....good job!

I can definitely see a correlation between real life and this quilt. Hang in there girlfriend!

Like you, I love modern quilts and am enjoying creating some of my own. These grey blocks are stunning, and I look forward to seeing what you do with them eventually.

As for your comments about what's going on in your life, how could anyone complain? I don't doubt that you are helping others who read your blog - if not with the same concerns, then in pointing the way to handle real keep-you-awake-at-night worries with true grace and open eyes for the future.

See you next month!

Nancy...I have been following your posts but haven't commented to date as I really don'tbhave any sage advice to offer....you are handling a very difficult situation with grace and grit....I am not sure how I would handle having to work so closely with the those who will take your job and others in the same position as you. I love the grey quilt with it's scattered and floating pieces which have come together to make a very interesting work. I am sure in time the scattered and floating pieces of your life will come together just as well....and who knows...maybe better! Keep writing and sharing - it's what makes your blog yours.
I love the black & white block placement on the gray fabric. Gray is the perfect color choice.

I have been negligent in commenting. Not because I don't care but because I have no words of wisdom or suggestions of how you might find peace. For me, the dignity and grace you have shown in this difficult situation has been inspiring. I truly hope you find some measure of comfort in the knowledge that you are in the thoughts and prayers of so many.
it's your blog, say what you like; those of us who have been there understand completely. it DOES have a way of taking over life completely...

Nancy - PLEASE WRITE what you feel - those are the best blog posts ever. We love you for who you are - not how rosy you make us feel. We all have issues in our lives and sharing those issues helps lighten the load as well as refining our perspective(s), so KEEP WRITING!! If folks don't want to know, then they don't have to read.

I agree with everyone else...your blog, your choice what is on it...if people don't like what you are writing, guess what, they don't have to read it, they can just move along...really annoys me when others try to dictate how or what someone else can or should have on their blog...
now I was thinking how is she going to set those scattered blocks and look at you go, you've done it! you are finding order in the chaos, well done you...
