Bloglovin -- My Way

Thanks, friends, for tolerating my recent rant on the State of the Blogosphere. I appreciated your support and your comments.

It wasn't my intent to consider giving up my blog. That wasn't the thing. It was about how Bloglovin's feed had kind of taken over my time like kudzu.

It was just too easy to add and add and add blogs to the feed. And then when I'd check in to the feed, I'd be daunted by the presence of 60 or more new entries waiting for me to read. And here's something else: I sheepishly admit that I was missing my own blog as my home page where I went to start each day and then to venture out to the updated blogs listed in the sidebar. Another factor in the equation was that people have told me that they miss my blog list.

So here's what I've decided to do: I'm keeping Bloglovin as a feeder-reader and over the next week or so, as a blog updates, I'll decide whether this is one I need to keep in the feed, to delete from the feed, or move to my blog. Yep, I've reconfigured my lists of the blogs that I really have to get to as soon as they are updated. So far, there's a group of writers, the same ones that used to be there Before Bloglovin. Then there's a group of Some Wonderful Quilt Blogs -- they are the ones that I like the best: Pretty blogs with nice pictures, where the bloggers talk about their lives and their thoughts as well as their quilts, where there is only the occasional promoting of a product, and infrequent participation in blog and book tours. There is a small category of commercial-type blogs. And that's it, so far. There might be more as I continue to purge the feed. I'll still read a lot of quilt blogs through Bloglovin, the ones that I feel like I can take my time getting to.

Big sigh of relief! And now back to the weeding . . . .

I still use my blog roll on my dashboard, so I haven't tried any of these newfangled feeds. : )
I'm glad you got things worked out, and I hope you can get the out-of-control list into manageable form.

I totally agree with everything your said about reading blogs, which blogs to read and which to delete. I just didn't know how to put it into words. Thanks for clarifying it so it makes sense to me. I didn't understand why a blog I use to read wasn't enjoyable any more. Thanks for the links to the blogs you enjoy.

Ya know, that's why I don't subscribe even to the blogs I visit daily and enjoy so much. I want to pop in to read the new entry when I have the time to relax and do that rather than be faced with umpteen new blog post emails all at once each morning that vie for my time and attention. Sorry, didn't mean to go off on a tangent.

I like to visit blogs on lists when I have the time so will be glad to see the list of blogs you like reappear!

Love your Problem Solved picture as it reminds me of an early Nintendo game I used to play with our sons called PipeDream.

Hugs!

When I first discovered your blog, I loved your links to other blogs. I found many connections there to blogs I still follow. I was sad when you took the list down, but I, too, went to Bloglovin. It's been good, but I'm SO happy to see that you''ve put your list back. Maybe I can reduce my Bloglovin list now, too.

Guess I'll have to update mine so it pops up for you! Maybe. I'm not on "Bloglovin" so perhaps it won't show anyway. (I don't know how these readers work.)

In any case, I really DO need to either update or abandon!

I promptly had to trace the lines in the "problem solved!" picture that accompanies your post. I read somewhere (recently) that it is true that mazes are easier to solve by going backwards. (I'd have to look up the citation and explanation as to why.) I keep adding blogs to Bloglovin', too, but I don't even try to tap into each daily update.

P.S. Missed seeing you when I was in PHL. The 55+ lbs of books I shipped back ought to arrive today.

I added to my list from your list of blogs. When you took that away, I was sad. Happy to see that you are listing your favorites. Thanks for sharing.

The more blogs I read, the less I was inclined to write, so one of my blogs has been neglected for about 3 years. I had two blogs to separate quilting stuff from faith and other thinking stuff. Then throw in being secretary to two groups and lots of health problems. Something had to give. But I've liked the balance in your blog, so it stays on my reader. I'm using NewsBlur. I like that I can read the blog right on that reader or I can easily go to the actual blog.

I think I'm about fed up too. Don't know what to do about it though. For some reason Bloglovin has made me LESS inclined to read blogs...
