Inspired by Mr. Mussorgsky

"Pictures at an Exhibition" is nearly finished!  All it needs is borders, and I bought the fabric this afternoon.  Tonight I finished putting the rows together, a tedious but rewarding process, getting the verticals all aligned.  Pin upon pin upon pin was the approach.

Oh, I cannot tell you how smitten I am with this quilt!  And, as so many have pointed out, it is so not me!  About as far away from William Morris, I think, as one can get.

I have an appointment with my gourmet machine quilter and will put it in the mail to her at the beginning of the week.

As often is the case, you can click on the photo once or even twice to make it large enough to view the pictures.  Do not, however, expect to find Baba-Yaga or the great gate of Kiev, but instead some other little treasures.

This is so not me, either, but I love it. Kind of an "eye spy" quilt, looking for the goodies within each frame. It really does look like art prints on a wall.

Love it! These kinds of scrappy quilts are great to explore and enjoy--smiles induced when you spot an animal or special print!

Nancy - you were so right to go with your gut feeling and ignore us in the cornerstones corner - I love it - the sashing fabric is inspired - it makes it look just like a bank of pictures against a shadowy wall
It is a very cool quilt. I don't want to sound like a cheeky wine snob but it really is very fresh and modern with a hint of vintage in the scrap piecing. Ok, I DO sound like a wine snob!

Loved seeing all the little faces looking back at me. It is a very cheery bright happy quilt.

Clearly your "Picasso Phase" is in full swing. A passing fancy or have scraps become your muse? I like this quilt a lot!

You are too funny Nancy. Love the quilt! Nope, no Baba-Yaga......

Just because we each have our go-to colors and 'typical' style doesn't mean we don't also love other styles and/or colors. I'm planning a quilt with soft, subdued colors and have had several remarks about those "not being my colors" ... so I totally get how you can love this quilt AND your William Morris-y quilts at the same time.

Well I think that having asked for advice re the cornerposts you followed your instincts and you were right and how well the blocks line up. What an adventure and how far, too, fromCivil War themes! - Mary

I love that almost every "picture" looks as though it has a real picture in it somewhere -- a face, a gog, a hippo, a grinch. The quilt itself is so not you, but the fact that you were brave enough to try something new and embrace it is VERY you.

Late to the party, but I love this. I'm rarely a fan of crumb-type quilts, but your setting really makes each one look like artwork. LOVE the gray sashing.
