Covid-19 Sewing (10): The Aunts' and Beyond!
As a reminder, this is the pattern for The Aunts' Quilt. Here's my update:
As of now, the twelve pieced blocks are complete. The six large appliqué blocks are bonded and three-and-three-quarters of them are finished. The ten side triangles and four corner triangles are bonded. The fabric for the border is tucked away safely (Helen suggested I put it with the finished blocks) so I don't cut into it for something else.
I have decided against putting the scallops around the edge for a couple of reasons: (1) Scallops don't seem to relate to the very angular pieced blocks or to the design elements in the appliqué blocks. (2) I think the scallops draw the eye out and detract from that wonderful center. (3) No way do I want to hand cut and appliqué a bazillion scallops.
So I'll just have a plain border and the blocks will more-or-less float.
Still being smitten with the fabrics I had chosen for The Aunts', I decided to start piecing some small blocks with no real plan in mind. Since they are left-overs from The Aunts

Love the Cousins idea. Very clever.
