Fifth Birthday Celebration

Today is the fifth birthday of Blogging, Near Philadelphia.  When I wrote my first post, back in 2006, I didn't know what I was in for.  I didn't know that I was finally becoming a writer.  I didn't know I would connect with an amazing community of quilters who blog.  I didn't anticipate running into Chez or Kim (talk about opposite ends of the spectrum!), both of whom have become virtual friends.  I never knew I would start a COW movement.   I didn't know that anyone at all would care to read what I was thinking or what I was making.

My first post, Having Fun With Intentionality, still holds meaning for me. Over these five years, I/we have had a lot of fun, and a good bit of it has been with intentionality.  To say that blogging has been a thoroughly satisfying experience would be an understatement.

Of course, for any birthday celebration there have to be presents.  I'm going to give one -- I just don't know what it is yet.  Leave a comment (and don't publicize this give-away, please -- I want it just to be for those of you who read regularly.  Or semi-regularly.  Or occasionally.) and on Saturday I'll draw a random number for the winner of the give-away.

Now, if you by chance would want to give me a present to celebrate my blog's birthday, I'd be delighted!  Here's what I'd like:  If you self-identify as a Cranky Old Woman or if you sympathize with COWs, please make a 9-1/2" unfinished quilt block with a cow appliqued, embroidered, or pieced on it, with a signature of some sort visible on the block (not in the seam allowance or on the back).  Or even a regular block pieced from cow fabric.  I want to make a COW quilt.  For me.  And I'd love for you to be part of it.  If you are interested in helping me out with this, let me know what kind of block or scraps I can send you in exchange.

And you don't have to make a block to enter the give-away.

On to Year Six!

Well, dear Nancy, happy Blogiversary to you! I am closing in on my 7th in October. When I have the time, I'd like to make you a COW block since I am a C.O.W. at times. Any specific color? I'll use my own fabrics since I already have an idea *smile*!

I have been thinking since yesterday and I am beginning to have an idea for a COW block. But it will take me a little more time to get it to a complete idea and then a little while longer to get the idea onto fabric. Can you hold on till then?

What a milestone! I have my cow block all planned. It will be a challenge for me to try something new and different. Your postings have a tendency to push us out of our comfort zones and down untraveled roads, and that's a good thing!

So, will you be posting a picture of yourselfin your blogday suit? Inquiring minds want to know.

What size of cow block do you want and yes, do tell us what colours you'd like!

Love your blog and read it daily! I'll try to get a cow block together--I'm at a low ebb right now!! I have passed on the cow imagery to friends, however, and they love it!

Happy 5th birthday, Nancy! I'd love to help you with a cow block. I live in America's Dairyland (that would be Wisconsin to the rest of the world), so I know a bit about cows.

Time does fly when you are having fun Nancy- Congratulations on posting for 5 years.
I meant to comment yesterday- I vaguely remember Kent State - I was in my teens when it happened. I remember it being such a shocking event.
It depends on when you need your COW block Nancy- I am starting the beginning of year end and life is getting a bit hectic. I have not appliqued much so it might not be a great block- I will see what I can do..
Have a great weekend and celebrate your many gifts- you are indeed a wonderful writer.
Warmest regards,
Anna

Congratulations on sixty months! Doesn't it sound different stated that way? That's what you do so well Nancy; bringing a unique slant to all kinds of topics that help all of us look at the world from another perspective. I've converted my Mom into a COW, but will only admit to being a calf myself!

Many, many happy returns Nancy.

Firstly, of course I would LOVE a present - who wouldn't?

Secondly, I'd love to give YOU a present, or maybe two. I'll be very happy to make you a COW block for YOU - but I'd also like to bring something with me next week as an additional give-away for your celebration.

I am definately a COW! Not sure of the age requirements but my attitude at times fits the bill of a COW. Thank you for sharing with us each day and Happy 5th Birthday. You cause me to think after reading your posts. I would love to make you a cow block, I already have one made just not the right size. Several posts back you mentioned wanting some cow blocks and I made one up but never heard you mention it again... I am going to try another one.
