God Jul
When I saw this quilt kit, I thought of Carol right away. Her birthday is Christmas and she's part Norwegian and part Swedish. For years she has been the one to organize the Santa Lucia Festival at church each December, and she has given me many of my Swedish Christmas decorations.
I wanted to make it for her for her birthday last year, but a quilt for a birthday gift is more extravagant than has been our custom over the years. I struggled with what to do because I knew that quilt should be hers.
Then the solution dawned on me! I bought the kit and wrapped it and gave it to her for her birthday. I told her, "Here's a Scandinavian Christmas quilt that just has to be yours. Happy birthday! And if you want me to make it for you, happy birthday for two years!"
I have been fortunate to have enjoyed a three-day weekend, and finished putting the last border on just a short time ago. It goes off in the mail to Branky tomorrow; she'll machine quilt it and get it back to me in plenty of time for me to bind it for Carol's birthday.
It was easier to make than I had anticipated. The pattern has very clear directions. I won't be using it again, so if you would like to have the pattern, please mention that in the comments section and I'll send it off. If more than one person wants it, I'll hold a drawing.
